Great news from Coach re Canen & HB 47!
New Exciting News -- Since our Sudden Cardiac Arrest incident last summer on July 7, Canen Dickman and his mother Pam, and myself have had numerous opportunities to tell our amazing story. The 3 of us spoke in front of the Ohio Senate Committee Hearing last wintner urging the passing of House Bill 47 that would provide a state mandate for AED's to be available at all schools and athletic facilities. It also mandates facilities have an Emergency Plan of Action and provide trainings for employees. Canen and Pam were also invited to Washington DC with the American Heart Association to speak in front of our House and Senate leaders at the Capitol.
We are very proud to announce that the Ohio House Bill 47 has passed both the Ohio House and Senate and is awaiting Governor DeWine's signature to become law. Last week, we were made aware that Governor DeWine has asked to sign the bill into law on July 23 at 2:30 at Worthington Kilbourne High School. This is an amazing honor! A big thank you goes out to Canen and Pam who have worked so hard to encourage the passing of this law. I am so very thankful to Worthington Schools' foresight to have the requirements of this law in place years before its passing. Our amazing, positive outcome to this incident was made possible because Kilbourne had provided me training, an emergency plan of action and a readily available AED on site. We are so blessed and thankful! With the passing of this law we hope that there will be many more positive outcomes to future cardiac incidents in Ohio.
